When Facebook introduced its chat feature, it made it a lot more convenient to chat away to your friends with out opening an extra client, but chatting inside a webpage isn’t always ideal.

In my search for a desktop client I found this great app called Digsby. It has Facebook, MSN(Windows Live), Yahoo, Google Talk and more in an all-in-one interface. It is also very customizable and has some pretty unique features such as being able multitask while you chat and tabbed chat windows.

Digsby is a multiprotocol IM client that lets you chat with all your friends on AIM, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, Google Talk, and Jabber with one simple to manage buddy list.

Also it is a social networking tool that alerts you of events like new messages and gives you a live Newsfeed of what your friends are up to.

Transparent Windows when Maximized

One most annoying things I have found with Windows Vista is that when you maximize a window the Aero transparency effects are turned off and the window turns black. There’s a great patch you can download which fixes this called VistaGlazz.

Microsoft Research WorldWide Telescope

This new application from Microsoft Research puts together various technologies they have been developing with their Live Labs and high-resolution pictures from numerous imaging satellites into a pretty cool experience.

WorldWide Telescope is created with the Microsoft® high performance Visual Experience Engine™ and allows seamless panning and zooming around the night sky, planets, and image environments. View the sky from multiple wavelenghts: See the x-ray view of the sky and zoom into bright radiation clouds, and then crossfade into the visible light view and discover the cloud remnants of a supernova explosion from a thousand years ago. Switch to the Hydrogen Alpha view to see the distribution and illumination of massive primordial hydrogen cloud structures lit up by the high energy radiation coming from nearby stars in the Milky Way.

Quick Guide to TV Show Torrents with RSS

One of the new features of BitTorrent is RSS torrent feeds. Once configured it can automate the downloading of torrents such as TV Shows where new episodes will be downloaded as soon as they are available.

This quick guide will show you how to get setup and downloading in minutes.

1. Get the latest µTorrent Client.

2. Check out http://tvrss.net/shows/ to see if your favourite tv shows are listed. If a chosen tv show is listed and the last episode was released is within a week it is a safe bet that they are currently airing new episodes every week. Notice [EZTV] and/or [VTV] next to the episodes. These indicate which RSS feed the episodes are available from and helps to stop you downloading duplicate episodes.

3. In µTorrent goto Options | RSS Downloader… and click Add to enter in a new feed. If the tv show you chosen has either [EZTV] or [VTV] next to episodes enter in “http://tvrss.net/feed/eztv/” without the quotes. If it only has [VTV] next to the episode also enter in “http://tvrss.net/feed/vtv/“.

4. Now to setup which tv shows you want to download. In the Favourites tab click Add, in the text box that pops up enter the name of the tv show.

For the Filter: box, enter in the name of the tv show followed by a *, if the name has multiple spaces enter ? for each space.

For the Not: box, enter in *HR*|*H*264|*x*264*|*IPOD*|*720p* which makes sure that you dont download duplicate episodes in different formats.

For the Feed: drop down, choose the matching feed that the episode corresponds to [EZTV] or [VTV].

Fill out the remaining empty fields with the relevant information. The checkbox next to the names indicate if the filter is activated.

Also clicking on the Releases tab shows all the tv shows available at the time on each rss feed. You may add any of them to the filters to have them downloaded or simply just double click the episode to start downloading.

You are done! leaving µTorrent running will make sure that newly available episodes will be downloaded automatically.

Taskbar on Multiple Monitors with UltraMon

When using multiple monitors with Windows the taskbar only appears on the primary monitor. Even with the new Windows Vista this problem still remains. UltraMon from Realtime Soft has been able to solve this problem for many years and now also supports Windows Vista.

μTorrent Vista Gadget

This vista gadget for μTorrent which will enable you to control your torrent downloads and uploads from your Windows Sidebar. It has the ability to begin a torrent by simply dragging and dropping .torrent files or .torrent URLs straight onto the gadget. It also includes a convenient search box.

WebUI Interface in μTorrent must be enabled for the gadget to function.

A-Patch for Windows Live Messenger

A-Patch allows you to customize your Windows Live Messenger with over 80 options including the ability to remove the big advertisement located on the contact list, disabling the nudge delay timer allowing you to send consecutive nudges without having to wait a few seconds in between. Other useful options include removing buttons such as “Activities”, “Windows Live Today”, and dozens of others buttons, multi-msn, show idle status of other users, and so on.

Grand Theft Auto IV available now

Search Commands for Office 2007

Microsoft has finally made this plugin available to download which allows users to search for commands in the Office applications directly from the Ribbon. They can then quickly those commands by a numbered keyboard shortcut, giving quick access to commands or tools if you don’t know where they are in the Ribbon bar.

Search Commands helps you find commands, options, wizards, and galleries in Microsoft Office 2007 Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Just type what you’re looking for in your own words and click the command you need. Search Commands also includes Guided Help, which acts as a tour guide for specific tasks.
